Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms
What are some chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms?
This health conditions affects women 2 to 4 times more often then men.
Experts don't know why that is the case. It seems to hit men and women
in their 40s or 50s and anyone of any age can be affected.
The difficulty with this condition, also known as CFS, is that we don't
know what the risk factors are and there is no known cause or illness
that leads to this condition.
In general, a person with CFS experiences flu-like symptoms which
drain the energy from a person causing mild to severe fatigue. Unlike
the flu, chronic fatigue syndrome can last for years. Chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms can include the following:
-
Extreme fatigue and physical exhaustion that last for more than 24 hours following physical or mental exercise
-
Loss of concentration and possibly memories of recent events
-
Sore throat, expanded lymph nodes in the armpits or neck
-
Muscle soreness or pains, join pains, redness or swelling
-
Headache not of the usual type experienced
-
Insomnia and sleep disturbance
In
addition, many other symptoms also can be found such as allergies,
chest pain, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, fainting spells,
dizziness, dry mouth, jaw pain, nausea, irregular heartbeats, chills,
visual disturbances, tingling sensations, weight loss or gain,
shortness of breath irritability, depression, panic attacks and anxiety
disorders.
With this huge list of general and non-specific symptoms it is no
wonder the cause of this condition can be next to impossible to find
out. However, doctors can diagnose this problem with a minimum of four
symptoms or persistent fatigue that has occurred for longer than six
months along with tender points in specific parts of the body.
When to Seek Medical Advice
When you experience excessive fatigue or the
symptoms that it affects your daily activities, it is time to see a healthcare professional.

Not only do the person
suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome needs support from healthcare
professionals and the immediate family members, even their friends need
to understand this health problem.
Quite often, a person with CFS is depressed and fatigued and does not want to engage in social activities with their friends.
If needed, he or she can join support groups that can provide ideas and
coping techniques from others who also suffer from the same condition.
