Curcumin
benefits which health conditions?
Curcumin is the active ingredient found in the popular spice from India. It is what gives it the color and flavor.

It
has been used in other cultures to treat constipation and various skin
diseases. The Asians use turmeric to treat problems in the stomach and
intestines.
Curcumin Benefits Supported by Research Studies
Antioxidant Protection
Firstly, curcumin is a very potent antioxidant. It can protect cells against damaged caused by free-radicals. There is some evidence that curcumin can also protect the liver against toxic compounds. Moreover
also seems to have anti-inflammatory effects. This explains why it can
be effective in treating osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
conditions.
Osteoarthritis
Studies completed in human volunteers show that turmeric can treat painful arthritis. It is often used in combination with boswellia. Another
study showed that it can help treat post-surgery pain. It
was found it be more effective than a prescription anti-inflammatory
drug.
Stomach Bloating and Gas
Turmeric
is often used to treat stomach problems such as stomach gas and cramps.
It is believed to work by reducing acid production by the stomach.
There
is some evidence that it might protect the stomach against damage by
toxic substances, including alcohol and prescription medications.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
One study showed that turmeric reduced pain and inflammation in people suffering from rheumatism. This is, in part, due to curcumin's ability to bring down inflammation.
Atherosclerosis
Hardening
of the arteries is a very common cause of heart attack and stroke. In
animal studies, there is evidence to show that curcumin might help to
prevent blood clots.
This blood-thinning effect is similar to what taking as Aspirin (ASA) a day does in prevent heart attack.
Cancer Prevention and Treatment
Lab
and animal studies are showing promise in using this herb to treat and
prevent cancer. Curcumin was able to stop melanoma (skin cancer cells)
from spreading.
Experts are not sure how it works but they suggest that it might be, in part, due to the antioxidant effects.
Other Suggested Uses?
