Curcumin Dosage

What is the recommended curcumin dosage I should use to treat my arthritis pain? There seems to be a wide range found in various brands and I'm not sure where to start.

Curcumin is the main active ingredient that is found in turmeric. Extensive research have been done with this popular Indian spice for treating various health conditions.

Usually, when you buy turmeric, it is standardized to contain between 90 to 95% curcumin.

Curcumin Dosage

Clinical trials done with curcumin used between 250 to 500 mg up to three times daily.

If you are using the tincture formulation, use between 0.5 to 1.5 mL of the extract up to three times daily.

Dose as high as 500 mg four times daily have been used.

If you are using dried roots, use 0.5 to 4 grams of the cut root or powder up to three times daily.

If you want to apply it on your skin, use the powder to make a paste (using water or your favorite cream). Apply this paste to the skin up to three times daily. Always test on a small area of the skin first just to make sure you do not develop an allergy to it.

The Secret?

For treating arthritis pain, try using both the paste on the affected joints and taking turmeric orally. As with any treatment options (be it with natural remedies or prescription medications), always start at the lowest dose and increase slowly.

You want to use the lowest dose possible that provide you with good pain control.
