Do taking hair vitamins really work?

I want to know if taking hair vitamins really work to grow hair back. I am a male in the mid 40's and I have been suffering from hair loss for a long time now. Slowly when I was 25 but it seemed to have gotten worst when I turned 40.



I have been taking Propecia for over a year now and notice hair growing back at the crown of the head. I told my doctor that I wasn't satisfied with the results and wanted to take vitamins and herbs. My doctor said not to bother. He said they don't work at all and is a total waste of money. I don't think I believe him 100%.

Do they really work and which brand should I take?

Vitamins and supplements marketed to treat or prevent hair loss usually contain vitamins such as biotin, other B vitamins and zinc.

They may also include herbs and supplements such as saw palmetto, grape seed extract, MSM and silica for added measure. These ingredients have some evidence that they might work to improve hair quality and to enhance growth.

The results you can expect can vary significantly from no benefit at all even after a year of use to somewhat effective with 6 months of use. It also depends on many other factors such as the cause of hair loss, stress level and any deficiency in existing minerals and vitamins.
