Does Stress Cause Erectile Dysfunction?
by Pharmacist Tom
A client asked me, "Does stress cause erectile dysfunction?" My immediate answer was absolutely. I had to pull back the statement and give some scientific explanation. Stress has negatives effect on the nervous system and hormone levels in the blood.
Intuitively, most people would know that stress can affect the ability for a male to achieve an erection. Stress causes hormonal imbalance (excessive adrenal) that can prevent an erection. It also doesn't put the mind in a relaxed state needed for proper sexual satisfaction.
Moreover, while most people think the stress is from work or family, it can even come from the fact of having sex! For example, if you are concerned that you will not be able to satisfy your partner, that's stressful and could prevent you from getting a firm erection.
But here's the really good news. It's completely reversible once the stressful situation is removed and the body is given the chance to recover.
If stress is causing ED, we have written a detailed article on
