Effective Remedies for Hair Growth?
What are some all natural effective remedies for hair growth?
Saw palmetto is the most studied herb for treating, or at least slowing down hair loss. Other herbs have little research studies to support the claim for hair growth.
Saw palmetto has been shown to be effective for treating enlarged prostate in men by blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT. This is exactly how the prescription drug Propecia works for treating hair loss.
A small study showed that after 5 months of treatment with saw palmetto combined with beta-sitosterol, 60% of the men reported hair growth (compared to only 11% of those taking a "sugar pill").
Saw palmetto is commonly recomended by herbalists as it blocks the production of DHT, a hormone which is known to cause hair loss and to enlarge the prostate gland.
Not surprisingly, some herbalists consider saw palmetto as the natural equivalent to Propecia, albeit a bit weaker.
Note: Keep in mind that when we say that other herbs don't have studies to show whether they work to help prevent hair loss, it does
not mean that they do not work! They just might...but research studies to prove this benefit is not available.
