How Ginseng for Libido Works

Ginseng has many health benefits. Ginseng has been and is still being promoted as a sexual rejuvenator. Chinese medical doctors continue to prescribe ginseng for men and women suffering from low libido.

Several animal studies show that ginseng boost sexual activity and improves mating behaviours in rats.

Studies done in men show that ginseng can help treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and boost blood flow to the penis. It also is shown to increase sperm count and motility.

In women, products containing ginseng seems to increase sexual desire in women suffering from menopause symptoms.

It is important to look at all the causes of low sex drive first since many of them (such as stress) need to be addressed as they can be the root cause of the problem.

Dose to Use

Experts suggest using 200 mg twice daily of the capsule. If you choose a tincture formulation, use 5 mL (1 teaspoon) twice a day. For a liquid extract, use 2.5 mL (1/2 teaspoon) twice daily.

How long should you take this? Continue taking ginseng until your libido improves. Some experts also suggest stopping ginseng for one week every five weeks to avoid side effects from the long-term use of this Chinese herb.

Reported side effects from taking ginseng continuously include insomnia, restlessness and low blood pressure.
