Kidney Stones Diet
What is the right kidney stones diet?
Experts agree that the right diet is one of the secret in preventing
and treating kidney stones. Why? Because with full control of ones
diet, people can choose not to eat foods that can lead to the quicker
formation and growth of the stones. This is more so for those already
suffering from kidney stones.
Kidney stones are made of the salts and other minerals formed
in the vital organs such as kidneys, ureters, and bladder. Many people
get these stones because these stones do form naturally. It is
important not to ignore kidney stones because some of them can cause
extremely pain and can even result to more
complicated related diseases such as kidney infections.
Experts recommend that along with early detection, eating the right
type of
foods is very essential in preventing kidney stones.
For those who are currently suffering from this problem, they will need
to pay much more attention to their diet because this directly
affects the degree and size of the kidney stones.
It is a known fact that people who have suffered from kidney stones
will likely have it again in 10 or 15 years. Why? Because many
of them do not continue with their medications, follow a proper diet and keep up with the physical
activities needed to prevent stones from forming again.
Prevention by Following the Kidney Stones Diet
Specialists agree that
the easiest way to stop kidney stones is by following a diet that is
balanced and appropriate for the age. This is because having a balanced
diet would ensure that one is getting all the key nutrition he or
she needs and assures that they will have smaller chance of getting stones again.
The following are
some dietary suggestions to lower the chance of getting kidney stones.
Increase fluid intake.
This is very effective in fighting kidney
stones because if you have enough amount of liquid in your body, it can
wash away toxins and flush then out from the body. Moreover, it keeps
the urine less concentrated with minerals and waste material so stones
are less likely to form. Increasing fluid
intake, especially water, is the simplest yet most effective way of
fighting kidney stones.
The ideal amount of water to drink should be 8 glasses every day.
People suffering from kidney stones need much more to flush out salts
and
other minerals in the body. For them 10 to 12 glasses daily is highly
recommended.
Restrict Sodium.
Getting too much salt or sodium is one of the main causes of kidney
stones formation because it increases the amount of calcium person's
urine. Doctors recommend people with calcium
stones to cut down or totally eliminate sodium intake from the foods
that they eat.
Get more fiber.
Indeed, fiber is considered helpful to people with kidney stones
because it contain several
compounds—mostly are phytate—that protects the kidney against stone
formation. Doctors suggest that people who have kidney stones should
increase their calcium intake coming from the foods they eat such as
wheat, rice bran and soybeans.
