maca for libidoYes. That's great news. Many intelligent individuals are making sure that there are at least some scientific studies to show that maca works to help boost libido before deciding to take it.

Read on below to discover what researchers have uncovered about this popular Peruvian vegetable crop...

Maca for Libido - The Scientific Evidence

There are many studies done on using maca for sex drive enhancement. Most of these studies were done in animals.

Fortunately, because of the popularity of this "sexual enhancing" herb, many scientists have carried out research in human subjects.

Here is just one of the many research papers published:

A double-blind, randomized, pilot dose-finding study of maca root (L. meyenii) for the management of SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction.
Dording CM, Fisher L, Papakostas G, Farabaugh A, Sonawalla S, Fava M, Mischoulon D.
CNS Neurosci Ther. 2008 Fall;14(3):182-91.

In this study, the researchers wanted to find out if taking maca could treat sexual dysfunction (such as low libido), a common side effect, that resulted from taking prescription antidepressant medications.

Twenty women were enrolled and the researchers designed the study properly by randomly assigning the women to either take the maca supplement in the low dose or high dose.

Here's what was discovered. The women taking 1.5 grams of maca daily did not show any improvement. But, the group taking 3 grams of maca daily had significant benefit from taking maca root.

Moreover, all the subjects did not experience any signficant side effects.

So taking maca for libido is effective if you use a dose of 3 grams daily according to this one study.

Of course, as common sense will tell you, always start with a lower dose first and increase slowly. Why? For two reasons.

One, some people will experience benefits at the lower dose of 1.5 grams daily. Two, this will help prevent side effects from appearing since your body will have time to get used to maca.
