Foods to Eat
  • Avoid dehydration by drinking at least eight glass of water (250 mL per glass) daily.

  • Eat more of healthy foods such as whole grains, vegetables, soy and nuts. Magnesium found in these foods can help to cut down on migraine attacks.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil can be helpful for reducing the number of migraines. Or eat a serving three times weekly of fish such as salmon or mackerel.

  • Keep the blood sugar level stable by eating smaller meals frequently rather than having large meals.
  • Get enough fiber in your diet. This will prevent constipation and keep your body from building up toxins.

Foods to Avoid
  • Preservatives, food colourings and additives often trigger migraine headaches. Avoid them.

  • Processed and preserved meats, artificial sweeteners (aspartame), monosodium glutamate (MSG) and phenylalanine often cause attacks.
  • Avoid excessive salt in your diet.

  • Avoid excessive changes in blood sugar levels by cutting out sweets, soft drinks and refined foods such as white bread or white rice.
  • Avoid tyramine rich foods such as cheese, alcohol, sausage, chocolate, citrus fruits, coffee, wine, vinegar and sour cream. They are known to trigger migraine attacks in some people.
