Comments on the natural asthma
cure
|
| Fish
Oil |
(What's
this?)
Fish oil contains essential fatty acids. Studies done in children shows that it works. It reduces the
inflammation in the airways and cuts down on asthma symptoms.
Dose:
Take 4 to 8 grams of fish oil daily. It may take up to 8 weeks for
an improvement to be seen.
|
| Magnesium |

Magnesium
helps to relax the airway muscle and to enhance lung functions. Some
research revealed that those suffering from asthma have lower levels of
magnesium.
Dose:
Adults: Take 300 to 400 mg daily. Children: Take 1 mg for each pound of
body weight daily.
|
| Vitamin
C |

Some
studies show that low levels of this essential vitamin seem to result
in poor lung function and a higher chance of suffering from asthma.
Taking this vitamin seems to reduce inflammation in the lungs and the
response to allergic substances.
Dose:
Take 1,000 mg once daily or take 500 mg twice daily. Either take
ascorbic acid or the non-acidic (buffered) form calcium ascorbate.
|
| Vitamin D |
Vitamin
D is essential in regulating the activities of the immune system.
Deficiency in this essential vitamin will cause the immune system to
overreact.
Low levels of this vitamin is suspected to play a role in asthma.
Dose: Take 1,000 to 2,000 IU daily.
|
| Pycnogenol |

This
substance comes from pine bark. It shows potent anti-inflammatory and
antioxidant benefits. Several studies show that it improves asthma
symptoms and make the lung function better.
Dose:
Take 100 mg daily. Children: Take 1 mg for each pound of body weight
daily.
|
| Lycopene |

Lycopene
is a potent antioxidant that seems to reduce inflammation in the
airways. In a double-blinded clinical trial, over 50% of the subjects
taking lycopene showed less asthma attack that is induced by exercise.
Dose:
Take 30 mg once daily. Benefits can be seen as quick as in one week.
|
| Vitamin B6 |

One
study done in children showed that taking 200 mg of this vitamin daily
for 60 days cuts down the asthma symptoms. Another clinical trial
showed
similar benefits in adults.
However, there are some studies
that show no benefits from taking this vitamin for preventing or reducing
the symptoms of asthma attacks.
Dose:
Take 100 to 200 mg of Vitamin B6 daily.
|
| Boswellia |

Some studies involving small groups of volunteers show that boswellia can cut down on the number of asthma
attacks.
Dose:
Take 300 mg three times daily. Results were seen in six weeks in one
research study.
|
| Selenium |

There
is evidence that free-radical damage may be involved in asthma.
Selenium is a potent antioxidant that can prevent this damage. One
clinical study showed that by taking this mineral, it reduced asthma
attacks in six out of the eleven patients.
Dose:
Take 100 mcg (micrograms) daily. A smaller dose can be safely used in
children. Results can be seen in a little as 14 weeks.
|
| Quercetin |

Quercetin comes from plants. It is a chemical known as flavonoids
which inhibits an enzyme that make chemicals that can trigger asthma
attacks. Human studies will need to be done to confirm if this helps
with asthma problems.
Dose:
Take 400 to 1,000 mg three times daily.
|
| Astragalus |

Astragalus
is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that helps to strengthen the
lung, improve lung functions and reduce the risk of developing lung
infections.
Dose:
Take 1,000 mg twice daily. Avoid using if you are having a fever.
