What
experts say about these proven natural remedies for ADHD in children |
| Fish Oil |
(What's this?)
One clinical study shows that children who have ADHD have lower levels
of essential fatty acids such as omega-3's found in fish oil and
evening primrose oil.
Another study that lasted 12 weeks showed that children given fatty acids
has significant improvements in behavioral and cognitive function
(spelling and reading skills).
A third clinical trial showed that giving children evening primrose oil
provided modest improvements in ADHD symptoms.
Low levels of omega 3 fatty acids seem to cause lower levels of
neurotransmitters in the brain of animals.
Dose:
Take 1 gram of fish oil daily. Also, using just the Omega-3's fatty
acids is suitable. As well, 2 grams can be safely used if needed.

| L-Carnitine |

One double-blinded clinical study that lasted 8 weeks showed a
54% improvement in ADHD symptoms. In comparison, the boys taking the placebo only had
a 13% improvement.
Dose:
Use 100 mg for each kilogram (2.2 lbs) of body weight daily. The
maximum dose is 4 grams daily.

| Magnesium |

It seems that children with ADHD may have lower levels of magnesium. In
one study, children given 200 mg of magnesium once a day for 6 months
showed reduced ADHD symptoms.
Dose:
Give 200 mg daily for 6 months.
|
| Zinc |

Some children with ADHD seem to have lower levels of zinc. One study
showed that children taking 15 mg of zinc had significant improvement
in their behaviors in 6 weeks.
Some experts theorize that zinc may be more effective if the child
was deficient in both zinc and fatty acids.
Dose:
Give 15 mg daily.
