Using turmeric for skin problems like psoriasis

Turmeric can be used by mouth or applied directly to the problem areas on the skin. It comes as a powder and as tablets or capsules.

You may wish to buy turmeric root powder from a natural health food store instead of those you can buy at the grocery store.

The powder can be used by those interested in making a turmeric paste or cream and the pills are convenient to take by mouth.

Taking turmeric by mouth for psoriasis

Take 500 mg to 1,000 mg (1 gram) three times daily.

This higher dose appears to be needed to ensure effectiveness. The smaller amounts used in cooking seem to be too low to work.

Applying turmeric on the skin for psoriasis

Some herbalists have suggested applying a home made turmeric treatment paste on the affected areas. You can make a paste by mixing turmeric powder with a cream base.

Use a cream that you currently use as the base to make this paste. This way, you will know that the cream base does not worsen your psoriasis.

You can vary the amount of turmeric and the cream to get a consistency you like. You may start with 1 part turmeric powder and 3 parts cream.

Apply the paste to the psoriasis twice daily. Once the skin looks better, you may just use it once daily. Eventually, periodic use (like twice a week) may be all that is needed to prevent it from coming back.

Keep in mind that the yellow pigment in turmeric can stain clothing permanently so don't put on your most expensive dress! As well, it can stain your skin (but this will wear off).

When can I expect to see results?

It may take from at least two weeks up to a month before significant results can be seen.

The psoriasis patch will start to look better and eventually shrink. In time, it may completely disappear.

Bottom Line?

Turmeric is a spice that is safe to use with very little side effects so there is very little risk it testing it out.

However, for quick and effective results Dermasis is the solution. It uses FDA approved ingredients for treating psoriasis and comes with high recommendations for current users of the product.
